Nursery Style for the Modern Baby

I am thrilled to be a guest author at the fabulously stylish Little Sooti blog!

Deciding on how to decorate your nursery can be exciting but at the same time it can be quite overwhelming and challenging. These days there are lots of fabulous and stylish products out there that can help us to create the perfect room for the modern and trendy baby.

When it comes to decorating a nursery there are so many gorgeous products to choose from, but I believe the key to styling your nursery is to keep it simple and classic, with key pieces that will make a statement. To start with, you need to ask yourself ‘what is my inspiration?’ It may stem from a colour palette, a piece of fabric, an artwork or place. Once you have established a theme, you’re ready to shop and style!

Here are a few elements that are key to achieving the perfect nursery.
~Wall Paint colour {Experiement with unique colour combinations. Don’t be afraid!}.
~Cot and Bedding {A classic quality style cot topped with gorgeous bedding. I am loving all things Stokke, classic Boori, Dwell Studio and Anton’s Lane}.
~Chair {A coforable chair covered in vintage or modern fabric for bonding, feeding and story time}.
~Dresser/Shelving/Storage {Stick to a dark chocolate or white wood, or a pastel colour! You can’t go past Ikea for shelving and storage or visit your local market for vintage furniture pieces}.
~Wall prints/ Art {From buntings, to carved wood letters, decals, canvas and framed prints. There are so many gorgeous artworks out there to choose from but I think less is more when adorning your walls}.
~Mobile {Gorgeous felt, Japanese paper cranes and wooden mobiles create an instant attraction to the cot and act as a key focal point in the room}.
~Floor rug {I love a bold rug and at the moment I am loving the black and white zebra print rug}.
~Lighting {Natural and soft light is best for baby. A decorative light hanging from the center of the ceiling as well as a night lamp is essential. I am loving chandeliers right now!}.

Take a look at these images of gorgeous nurseries featuring key elements found from all across the blog world for inspiration. And, if you haven't already- have a read of the latest Little One Baby magazine for further wonderful nursery ideas.

I came across this stylish inspiration board from Hostess with the Mostess Blog. The colour palettes featured for girls and boys are the in trend colours for 2010. {LOVE them!}
